[================ SECTION 1.1 - DESCRIPTION ==============]

Description:
* Unified DeusEx.u, combining BioMod with latest Shifter and dxEnhanced. Extensively configurable.
  Fully compatible with latest versions of other common mods. Tested and stable.
* User interface dimensions doubled for modern high-resolution displays, including sharp, antialised
  UI icons, freshly rendered in 24-bit. No more pixellated, low-color icons. Building up on work
  done in original dxEnhanced, we present a coherent high-definition user interface.
* DeusEx.exe launcher fixed to support scenarios requiring lots of memory. No more crashes on saving.
* Number of other improvements and bugfixes.

unifiedDeusEx Includes (And Improves Upon) The Following Mods:

Permanent website address for unifiedDeusEx is http://www.moddb.com/mods/unified-deus-ex/

[================ SECTION 2.1 - REQUIREMENTS =============]

- screen resolution at least 1280x960, or higher
- OPTIONAL: using Direct3D 10 renderer
    - without it user interface will use old, ugly icons
- if running Revision together with New Vision and HDTP, you're recommended to have a 64-bit operating system and at least 3 GB RAM

[================ SECTION 2.2 - INSTALLATION =============]

Installation Order:

(0) RECOMMENDED: HDTP Release 2 or later from http://offtopicproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=110462#p110462
    - important: go to your DeusEx directory, go down to HDTP\System\ subdirectory, and rename DeusEx.u to DeusEx.u.unused
(1) RECOMMENDED: New Vision v1.5 or later version from http://www.moddb.com/mods/new-vision/downloads
(2) unifiedDeusEx (this mod :-)
    - just extract the archive to your DeusEx directory, select "Yes" to overwrite existing files
	- make sure Direct3D 10 renderer is selected
	- make sure UI scaling is disabled in the launcher settings
    - if you're using an international version of Deus Ex, and are seeing weird/missing letters, contact me,
      and I'll give you instructions on how to create Deus Ex fonts for your language
(3) OPTIONAL: Revision v1.3.1 or later version from http://www.moddb.com/mods/deus-ex-revision/downloads
    - in the installer do check the option to install Shifter compatibility
    - make sure you overwrite System\Revision.exe with the one shipped with unifiedDeusEx
    - note: Deus Ex Revision ships with a modified version of Direct3D 10 renderer; it works just as well, just looks different
(4) OPTIONAL: Zodiac from http://www.moddb.com/mods/zodiac/downloads, then adaptation of unifiedDeusEx for Zodiac.
(5) Launch DeusEx.exe (or appropriate .exe for your installed mod) and check your configuration against included
    unifiedDeusEx_installation_instructions_-_configure.jpg
(6) If you installed any of the optional (but highly recommended) mods from above list, also check your load order
    against included unifiedDeusEx_installation_instructions_-_data_directories.jpg
(7) Configure the mod to your taste, per configuration section.

[================ SECTION 2.3 - TROUBLESHOOTING ==========]

(0) General steps:
    - check that you followed installation instructions
    - check your configuration against unifiedDeusEx_installation_instructions_-_configure.jpg
    - check your load order against unifiedDeusEx_installation_instructions_-_data_directories.jpg

(1) If the application gives an error about 'MSVCRT110.DLL' missing, download and install Visual C++ 2012 runtime from
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/B/16B06F60-3B20-4FF2-B699-5E9B7962F9AE/VSU1/vcredist_x86.exe

(2) If you're seeing regular-sized menu buttons and large fonts, go to your DeusEx directory, go down to HDTP\System\
    subdirectory, and rename DeusEx.u to DeusEx.u.unused. If that doesn't fix the problem, search your DeusEx directory
    (and all its subdirectories) for files named DeusEx.u, and rename almost all of them (except System\DeusEx.u)
    to DeusEx.u.unused.

(3) "I've done everything according to instructions, but my menus are too large, they don't fit on screen!" Most
    likely, the _native_ resolution of your display either has height below 960, or has width below 1280. For example,
	your laptop native LCD panel resolution is 1280x800 or 1366x768. In that case try playing the game with a custom
	resolution with both width at least 1280 AND height at least 960.

	If your laptop panel is 1280x960, set resolution 1536x960 and field of view 16:10 in Deus Ex launcher
	If your laptop panel is 1366x768, set resolution 1707x960 and field of view 16:9 in Deus Ex launcher

[================ SECTION 2.4 - CONFIGURATION ============]

You can now enable or disable Shifter-specific features individually via variables in [DeusEx.DeusExGameInfo] section of DeusEx.ini:

    Variable                                Default     Description
                                            Value
    --------                                --------    -----------
    bNewSkillSystem False Extra skill point awards for kills, stealthy sneaking, and flushing toilets
    bShifterEnableRandomInventory True Additional random loot dropped by NPCs
    bShifterEnableOverpoweredUniqueWeapons True Whether to enable JackHammer, Precision Rifle, and Railgun
    bShifterEnableMiniRocketLauncher True Whether to enable ILAW (Mini Rocket Launcher)
    bShifterEnableWeaponModRateOfFire True Whether to enable new weapon mod increasing rate of fire
    bShifterEnabledShotgunAmmoPacking True Whether to allow shotguns to load multiple shells via alt-fire to be fired in sequence

If the variables are not present in DeusEx.ini, you can add them manually like this:

[DeusEx.DeusExGameInfo]
bShifterEnableRandomInventory=False
...

[================ SECTION 3.1 - CHANGELOG ================]

Version 0.2.1:
- fixed main menu (by restoring it to original size, for compatibility with other mods)
- fixed button alignment in all menus
- improved belt icon for keyring
- improved belt & inventory icons for binoculars

Version 0.2:
- all icons and other small user interface textures reexported to DDS in uncompressed format
	- antialiased edges
	- /much/ better colors

Version 0.1.1:
- restored main menu button sizes from doubled-up to normal, to resolve issues with 3rd-party mods

Version 0.1 (initial release):
- HDTP:
	- ported over Shifter changes to load all new HDTP items from HDTP Release 2
	    ? I think all the new HDTP Release 2 items are referenced, except the buggy MJ12 Command mesh
    - also loading HDTP karkian mesh for baby karkian
- Shifter:
    - if you're like me, and feel that many new features of Shifter unbalance the game and make progress too easy, you now
      can enable or disable them one by one (see SECTION 2.3 - CONFIGURATION)
    - displaying correct karkian carcass for karkian and baby karkian corpses, instead of cat carcass
- BioMod:
    - restored default jumping height with Athletics skill at Untrained, to avoid getting trapped on the roof of warehouse
		- you still get small increases in jumping height from each increase in Athletics skill
		- final jumping height is the same as in original BioMod
    - changed Tracking augmentation back to Targeting (the idea is nice, but Targeting is way more useful)
        ? maybe replace Aqualung with Tracking in the future
	- reenabled crosshair for scoped weapons back from BioMod (will change it to be controlled via a variable in .ini file in the near future)
    - Shifter skill system was partially disabled in BioMod, now it can be either completely enabled or completely disabled
- DeusEx launcher:
    - made large address aware (can now address up to 4 GB RAM instead of 2 GB)
        EDITBIN.EXE /LARGEADDRESSAWARE DeusEx.exe
    - stack size increased from 1 GB to 2 GB, to fix problems while saving in Revision on UNATCO Island
        EDITBIN.EXE /STACK:2097152 DeusEx.exe
- dxEnhancedPlus:
    - high-quality re-rendering (from original or HDTP meshes, in 24-bit colour) or upscaling of most DeusExUI.u icons and textures:
        - main HUD
            - augmentations
            - charged armors/suits
            - health display
            - belt icons
        - inventory icons
        - augmentation and health tabs
        - data vault images
        - more
    - fixed to display unscaled 256x256 data vault images from other mods properly, instead of space-separated quarter slices
    - fixed Credits screen to display Deus Ex logo in proper (original) size

[================ SECTION 3.2 - ICON CHANGES =============]

Information on icons/textures used in Deus Ex UI rendering - there are 3 kinds (from worse to better in terms of image quality) used:

(1) Pixel-doubled icons embedded in DeusExUI.u - these don't look too great (no offense to Daemonjax, the original author of dxEnhanced).

(2) Icons scaled from original Deus Ex art (256-color palettized .pcx files). Scaling was done in linear RGB, using [hopefully]
    appropriate scaling filters, as per recommendations at http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/filter/nicolas/. Different filters
    were picked on a case-by-case basis, to balance sharpness and artifacts. Some icons were slightly sharpened after upscaling.

(3) Icons newly created by previewing meshes of the actual 3D objects, taking screenshots, and then working from there. HDTP
    meshes were used where available. (So, you're getting HDTP icons even if you don't have HDTP installed :-)

Texture (2) and (3) are present as individual .dds files in Textures\ directory, and are used by Direct3D 10 renderer as overrides
for type (1) textures. Type (3) icons were generated where possible (meaning inventory, belt, and charged items). Type (2) icons were
generated for 2D art, such as HUD augmentation icons, data vault images, etc., as well as for special cases listed below. All icons and
other small and-or semi-transparent textures are exported to DDS uncompressed (to ensure antialised edges and correct color reproduction),
and DXT1 compression is used for data vault images.

Some special cases, where icons type (2) were used instead of type (3):
- Dragon Tooth Sword: unsure how to preview the mesh with electrical effects enabled, and I can't install 3Ds Max on my computer
- grenades: upscaled & sharpened versions of stock icons look good enough
- bioelectric cell: 3D mesh is actually more blocky/edgy than the upscaled version of stock icon (wink-wink, HDTP ;-)

Progress information on belt / inventory / charged item icons:
162 icons total in DeusExUI.Icons:
    82 rendered from meshes as type (3) icons
    57 pending type (3) icons to be rendered from meshes, will finish 'em by end of March 2014; shipped as type (2) icons for now
    12 using upscaled versions of Deus Ex art (special cases listed above) as type (2) icons
	11 are 2D art (damage icons), and were upscaled

Quote: "You know you've been doing too much graphics work lately, if sugar in the sugar pot looks blocky and pixellated to you, and you
        think that (a) you should've applied some Gaussian blur to alpha channel before upscaling, and (b) should've upscaled via Cubic."
